The Application Workspace Launcher is the desktop client version of the Web Launcher. It replicates the same functionality except for a few differences detailed in this article, but runs as a desktop app on Windows and macOS operating systems, offering:
Streamlined Access
There is no dependency on a browser or internet connection. Thus, it is ideal for environments with restricted or no internet access (e.g., factory production floors).: There is no need to type URLs, remember bookmarks, or log in through a browser each time.
Security
Using the Application Workspace Launcher minimises risks from browser-based vulnerabilities, phishing, or accidental navigation, as it runs a controlled environment dedicated solely to the application.
Desktop Integration
The Application Workspace Launcher provides system integration, such as a Start menu entry and system tray icon for Windows operating systems and a menulet in the menu bar, or entry in Launchpad, Dock, Spotlight on macOS operating systems.
Application Workspace Launcher specific settings
Under Manage > Portal > Agent Settings, there are launcher-specific settings like disabling the option to close the launcher or displaying a minimalist interface.
Characteristics unique to the Application Workspace Launcher
- In Offline Mode, the Application Workspace Launcher has limited functionality:
- The Side Menu and tabs (Workspace, Contacts, Catalog, Manage) are hidden, only the toolbar without the side menu toggler is displayed
- You are not allowed to change any personal settings, and applications can only be installed and started.
- You can drag and drop a local application into your workspace only in the Application Workspace Launcher.
- The Application Workspace Launcher requires the Application Workspace Agent to function. It will not display otherwise.
